Music composer and producer, professional tinkerer, cognitive psychologist and design thinking enthusiast.
Johannes Marx, born in 1974, achieved success in the early 2000s with his electro-acoustic collective Pitchtuner, embarking on successful tours that spanned over 600 shows in Europe, Asia, and the USA. Renowned for his innovative spirit, Marx not only performed but also developed numerous instruments and controllers specifically designed for his live shows, resulting in the acquisition of several patents.
His musical endeavors extend to various record labels, including Doxa Records (Germany), Motor Music (Germany), Binyl Rec./Avex (Japan), Fake Music (China), Djummi Rec (Germany), and his personal label, Burning Friends Rec. Collaborating with esteemed artists such as Max Punktezahl (The Notwist), Niek Muel (Das Pop), Dave Martijn (Goose) and Jim Barr (Portishead) , Marx has made significant contributions to the music industry.
His work has been recorded by the well-known producer Moses Schneider (Beatsteaks, Fehlfarben, Tocotronic), solidifying his position as a respected figure in the realm of music composition and production.
During the pandemic, Johannes Marx conceived his own online show, later adapted for television, titled 'SHOXXXBOXXX Live Dream' in collaboration with Japanese artist SHOXXX. Each of the so far 26 episode features a musician performing in an Alice in Wonderland-like world, with Johannes taking on the role of the papercut puppet 'Man in the Mixer.'
Johannes was part of the 'Furios' ensemble that performed their well received theater play at Heimathafen Neuköln. Additionally, he collaborates with the contemporary artist 'Jim Avignon,' developing interactive exhibitions in various cities including Berlin, Kassel, Paris and Seoul.
His latest venture, 'The Human Beat Machine,' premiered at last year's Fusion Festival. It is an interactive musical installation devised and facilitated by Marx, empowering the audience to actively participate as musical performers.
Johannes has a degree in Psychology and for the past 15 years, he has been an integral part of the coaching team at the leading HPI School of Design Thinking, the first offspring of the d.school Stanford.
