The Team Makes The Dream: Understanding the team around an artist

No one is an island. Especially in the music industry, a functioning network is the most important criterion for success. Even as an individual DIY artist, you can't do everything on your own, too many special skills, experiences and structures are needed to build a professional structure for yourself. This workshop explains the most important roles and functions in the music industry - what is important to be sustainably successful? And which requirements can I fulfil myself?

• A primer on the various roles that surround successful artists (management, booking agents, tour manager, business manager / accountant, label, publisher, attorney, performance rights organization, PR/promo folks, additional touring partners, etc)
• “It takes a village to raise a child” analogy, promoting the idea that it really does take a wide network of people to participate in orbiting an artist’s career for an artist to truly succeed
• The value of a diverse multi-disciplinary set of experience as a business person within the music industry
• An introduction to the various unions, associations, and other professional organizations which can help grow one’s network
