We had a really great time and a busy schedule at this year re:publica.

On the first day of conference, we runned our community night, exploring the topic of application of Artificial Intelligence to music composition through the talks of our colleague Eric Eitel and the one moderated by our own Andrea Goetzke in conversation with artist/ programmer Gene Kogan

You can enjoy all our talks at re:publica 2018 via our Youtube playlist here.

At the latest after the release of "Hello World", the first pop album written with the help of an AI, the music world is in turmoil. Flow Machines and other "tools" promise nothing less than revolutionizing music production by "managing" creative processes, "objectifying" styles, or acting as "artificial muse." With the next wave of technological innovation, conventional interfaces will be eliminated, making music creators opens up completely new possibilities to compose, produce and perform music.

Gene Kogan examines present and future impacts of machine learning applied to music, with a focus on a practical understanding and use of machine learning in the music making process. It will look into tools for composition, synthesizing audio and imitating styles, smart musical instruments, up to matching the listener with the perfectly fitting song. As algorithms invade every aspect of the music creation process, we are asked to reconsider what it means to be a musician in the 21st century.
